TOP 10 MARKETING RULES
The number #1 rule of marketing is...

Welcome, everyone.

Today we are going to discuss some essential rules that you will need to be successful online. I call them the Top Ten Rules of Marketing, and we will be going over all of them on this Webinar but,

Before we begin, there is one marketing rule that takes center stage upon which all other rules depend on, Kind of like Shakespeare's famous soliloquy from "As You like it" that begins with "All the world's a stage,  And all the men and women merely players."

So with that auspicious beginning, I am going to reveal to you, in a couple of minutes, what the number 1 rule of marketing is but,

Before I do that. Let me hear some ideas from you about what you think is the number 1 rule of marketing.

Let's start with a straightforward question and get your feedback.

The question is,

What is the Number 1 rule of Marketing?

The answer is,
Marketing Rule 1. Knowledge is Power.
You must find out everything you can about the product or site you are promoting online so you can speak or write about it with authority.

You should know things like,
  • What the product is.
  • What the product does.
  • How you use the product or service.
  • How much it costs.
  • how much you can earn if you promote it.
  • Who your targeted audience is for that product.
  • How to convince people to buy it from you.
Think of it this way. If you want to buy a house, you go to a broker and tell him what you are looking for, and you wait for him to come back to you with a description of the house.

Now I'm pretty sure you would want to know how big the house was, how many rooms it has, how many bathrooms it has. Does it have a basement? How old is the house? Is the basement finished? How much work does it need? How big is the back yard? And how much it costs?

I know I would like to know these things before I hop in my car and go to see a place and spend my time and gas on the trip.

If your broker cannot answer these questions for you, I doubt that you would continue to work with them. I would say no because I would know right off the bat that the broker probably did not see the house before trying to sell it to me and I would drop him or her like a hot potato.
Okay so if we can agree that you must know your site inside and out before you promote the site, let's look at the other rules of the road you may want to follow as you build your online business.

Most of you are here today because you use advertising tools to promote your products. Phil and I have been developing advertising tools for over 19 years online, so we know a good deal about them.

Let's go to the next group of essential rules about when, where, and how to use the advertising tools that you have invested in over time.
Marketing Rule 2 - Capture Pages Rule.
When you promote your offers on other people's lists, you should always use a capture page.

Your only goal when you use other peoples lists for promotions is to steal their list members. Do not even attempt to sell a product to people on someone's else's list. They have no idea who you are.

When you use a capture page you can get them on your list, and you are giving them the chance to get to know you, like you, and trust you, and we tend to buy more readily from people we know like and trust.

When I promote anything to outside lists, I always use capture pages, and I always make them over at Onyalist.

You can see some examples below.

http://onyalist.com/WalkInTheParkToo/onyalist
http://onyalist.com/GetNosey/onyalist

Both of these pages are teasers like those you would see in a movie theater. They give you just enough to interest you, but they don't give away the story or the ending.

I am not interested in selling anything yet. All I want to do is get these visitors on my list so I can continue a conversation with them.

The central part of the story and the ending comes after they give me their name and email and I have them on my list. Now I have many email messages to tell the story about my product or service.

If you want to create a capture page in under 60 seconds, Onyalist is the place to do that effortlessly. No experience or particular skill is required.

If you are busy and you'd like us to set the capture page up for you, then take a look at our Done 4U service.
Marketing Rule 3 - The Ethical Thief.
Steal other people's list members every chance you get and in every legal, and ethical way you can.

This rule expands on rule 2.

If you promote advertising tools, pick those that have,

1. A capture page
2. Offer a gift of value

Here are a couple of examples,

The Profit from Free Ads capture page lets you give away free ad credits.

The FrontPage Mail capture page does the same thing.

These kinds of capture pages accomplish two things for you.

1) They get people signed up under you.

2) They give you a downline mailer, so you can talk in detail about the sites that you want to promote to your own downline.
Marketing Rule 4 - Diversify and Profit.
If you are going to succeed online, you must use every method you can think of to promote your capture pages. Diversity is the key.

If you are trying to build a list using capture pages, you will need to do that in different ways.

1. Solo-Ad mailings.
2. Targeted traffic.
3. Social postings.
4. Video marketing.
5. Brandable PDF's.
6. Blogs.
7. Banner ads.
8. Newsletter mailings.

And so on.

For Solo-ad Mailings, you could start with Profit from Free Ads and FrontPage Mail. Both of these sites have very responsive mailers.

For Quality Traffic you should go to Never Ending Traffic 4u where you can promote up to 10 URLs and get traffic sent to them daily for life. We set these campaigns up for you.

For Social Posting our flagship site Sokule is where you can post to 1.4 million daily, plus there is a solo-ad mailer that you can use every three days.

For blogs and banners, you can find these at any of the above sites.
Marketing Rule 5 - Reciprocity.
No doubt you've heard the old saying, "Give that you may receive." This saying describes reciprocity in a nutshell.

Always have something valuable that you own so that you can give it away to others.

If you want people to subscribe to your list,

You could give away free reports.

At A100Dollarbill there is an excellent report on the sales page called From Zero to Hero written by me, and people get it when they sign up free.

You can give away free ad credits.

Here is how I do that at Profit from Free Ads.

I end my emails like this:

Get your hands on our most responsive solo-ad mailer.
Sign up under my link today, and I will give you 70,000
Free Ad Credits to get you started. (Value $350.00)

http://profitfromfreeads.com/cp1/Profitfromfreeads

At FrontPage Mail you can say this.

Sign up under my link today and I will
give you 100,000 Free Ad credits to get
you started  (Value $500.00)

http://frontpagemail.com/cp1/frontpagemail

Why do you need something to give away?

You give so that you can receive.

Giving away something of value is the easiest and quickest way to get signups and build a list. When you choose any site that gives away something free to encourage people to join, make sure that site gives you a way to contact your downline so that you can email that list that you are building.

That is how you build up relationships and relationships lead to sales.

It works like this. You give away something of value for free now and later on, down the road, that free report or those free credits will come back to you in profits over and over again.

Give something to get something down the road. That is why we call this marketing rule Reciprocity.
Marketing Rule 6 - Mind Your Manners.
Do not send emails with subject lines in all caps.

IT IS CONSIDERED SCREAMING AND VERY RUDE :-)

But more than that you want to make sure your subject lines are not causing your email to end up in the spam folder. If you send all caps, your emails could be saying hello to the spam folder faster than you think.

You also want to watch what words you put in the subject lines. Some words are deadly and will almost always get you into the spam box.

Some obvious ones that come to mind are money, free, sales, profits, marketing, but there are many more that you may not think would be spam words. Words like chance, amazing, home, home business, lifetime, vacation and many others are also spam words.

If you want to make sure that your emails go into the inbox I suggest you get your hands on our email swipe book. Not only will it give you over 100 subject lines that we have checked over and over and that you can use or edit, but it will also give you the exact link where we test any subject line that we use and tweak it until it provides us with a reading over 90%.

Or you could make a smarter choice and become a premium member at
our new site, MoreVisitorsNow.com - You get to use our headline mailer that writes the subject lines for you plus you get a copy of our email swipes book free.

Marketing Rule 7 - Minimize The Risk.
When it doubt, Itsy it.

Itsy Linx is a link shortener with custom links, micro-targeting, stats, and an impressive solo-ad mailer.

Why would you want to make a long affiliate link short?

1. Long links look terrible in emails. Some do not wrap properly and shortening and customizing them is a great way to solve this problem.

2. Macafee and some other services block a lot of links with false/positive results. There may be nothing wrong with the site, but it scares the daylights out of people when the display a Big Red Risky notice and a warning that if you click on this link something terrible could happen. Of course, most people run from that even if the site is safe.

3. You want to create mystery about the site you wish to promote. If everyone is promoting a website that you want to advertise you need to find a way to stand out. You can get your links clicked by using an Itsy Linx link and disguising it with a custom name that describes the site but doesn't reveal the name of the website.

Itsy Linx custom links take care of these problems.

* You can create custom links that are unique to you.
* You can check your stats right at the site.
* It takes 2 seconds to set up an Itsy Link.

I create 2 or 3 Itsy Linx every day depending on what I am promoting. I could not live without this site so be sure to take a look at it once the webinar is over.

Here are some of the Itsy links I created for this webinar in literally 2 seconds each.

Marketing Rule 8 - Slow Down.
Building a business takes time.

You can do it faster online than you can in the bricks and mortar world, but if you are looking for instant results, you are barking up the wrong tree, unless you have a list of your own.

Many people have unrealistic expectations. They have instant coffee in the morning, then get online and want instant gratification.

I sent one email and got no results they cry.

Welcome to the world of email marketing.

A good friend of ours, who has large lists, once said something we never forgot.

"I send out emails every day of the week. One week I noticed that the first 3-4 days nothing seemed to work, then the next day, I got so many orders I got buried. It all boiled down to a straightforward formula — the right message at the right time.

You keep pushing on until things click and you build your business slow and steady.
Marketing Rule 9 - Run the Numbers.
Building a business means keeping track of income and expenses.

Before you join a site, it is essential that you run the numbers so that you get some idea of what your potential income might look like and see what your estimated expenses are so you can figure out your Return on investment.

We may do a whole webinar on running the numbers soon so you can start to set up a real business plan, but for today let's say,

Pick a site that has a variety of price points so that you can get people to sign up under you, and then gradually upgrade to a higher ticket membership. An example of this is our site Profit from Free Ads where the prices range from $17 to $1196.00.

You want to make sure that when you promote any site that you have a good chance of raking in some real dough.

It takes just as much time and energy and money to promote a low ticket item as it does a high ticket item.

Choose your sites wisely.
Marketing Rule 10 - Love it or Leave it.
If you have passion, you will be able to convey it through your marketing, and people will feel it.

In order to market any site effectively, you need to know it inside and out. Marketing rule 1 - This is necessary but not sufficient. You need to be passionate about your business. You need to believe in so that you can inject others with your passion.

If you don't love coming to the computer every morning and digging into some aspect of your business, it is time to leave it and find something you like to do.

You can't sell something if you don't believe in it.

Period End of Story.
